  <name>Mind Altering Substances</name>
<notes>After the breakup of African Sleeping Sickness, John Buetow and Matt Sommers wanted to do a separate project that was more folk than punk. So, starting in the summer of 1986, Mind Altering Substances was born. It morphed into several different iterations, drawing in Todd Cravens, Kevin Rhodenbaugh and Ron McKibben. Most of the songs were written by John and Matt, and the album was finished in the fall of 1986 at TBS on weekends when John was home from college. Inspired by the idea that anything can be a Mind Altering Substance, including other people's ideas.</notes>
