<notes>With the addition of Matt Walden on guitar, and adapting a more political tone, the band Similar Differences became A.W.O.L. (Americans WithOut Liberty). Practicing in Troy and Brad's garages, they mostly annoyed their largest audience - their parents. They recorded one cassette demo and played a few parties. </notes>

<notes>Capitalizing on the punk scene that swept through Kokomo in the mid '80s, A.S.S. created chaotic songs about people they disliked and situations that pissed them off. They practiced at John Buetow's house and performed at Herron School of Art, Kokomo Armory, Camp Tycony and the Isis Theater, among other venues. They recorded often, both live & in the studio, always produced by John Buetow. In 1985, they released the cassete album We're Destroying Ourselves. A.S.S. was managed by Buck Sheveily. Tom Porter and Bob Peele often helped carry equipment.</notes>

<notes>The name 'Bag of Elbows' comes from this line in the 1985 movie Witness: "...when you drink a lot of beer you say things like 'none of the other police know a crook from a bag of elbows!'". The band was formed in Bloomington, IN, by IU students Rick, Andrew, and Dave Levinsky (guitar and vocals). From a friend of friend, Dave Boyd met Rick, auditioned for and then joined along with Scott Southwick (vocals). The quintet played a couple parties and bars around town, including 33 Steps, The Bluebird, and the Video Saloon. Dave Levinsky left the band to work on his thesis, and Scott parted ways to become an internet baron. That's when Bag of Elbows became the power pop trio featured on these recordings.

<notes>The Baldwin Brothers began when Jason and TJ met in junior high in Kokomo, IN. The son of a musician, Jason was already playing guitar and bass, and was soon to add drums to his repertoire; he discovered TJ played piano (he had been taking lessons since age six) and invited him over to jam. In the Hinkle family's basement there was a treasure trove of recording gear. "It was a playground," says TJ. "There was a reel-to-reel recorder, a drum machine, and lots of toys and effects." In no time, the pair were experimenting with the equipment and taping their results. They often played with Dr. Zhivago's Forehead and collaborated with other musicians in the group Universal Mind.

Now based in Chicago, IL, Baldwin Bros. are still actively writing and performing.

<notes>Born in to a middle-class Kokomo family of seven, raised as an Episcopalian and set adrift to figure out the world on my own, I quickly adopted the counter culture of punk rock. I was terribly shy but had the luxury of a very gregarious friend (Derek Dechert) who wanted to start a punk band. I was a budding poet and had a peculiar taste in music, so it sounded too good to be true. Along came John Buetow, who taught me about the art of hearing music in space and time. The lessons learned in the basement of the Buetow house will last a lifetime.

I had no musical talent or singing ability at all, but I knew how to make a spectacle of myself and had a booming voice when I wanted one. I had a way of writing that caught people’s attention and thought I had a creative knack for lyricism, so we decided to form a band. We needed a drummer, and friends of ours recommended Brad Wallace (my hero). Brad could play the drums like I had never heard and had a passion for the same things we did. We talked him into sitting in with us, and when I showed up, there was this other guy there tuning his guitar. Matt Sommers, whom I had seen around, was a little introverted but had a creative fire smoldering in him like he was mother fucking Mount Saint Helens. He was a self-taught guitarist and started out cherry picking accents, but eventually became the driving force of African Sleeping Sickness. Time passed and we all became bored with what we were doing. John went off to college. Derek, Matt, and Brad went on to create a lasting musical legacy, not only in Kokomo but around Indiana, and, in Matt and Brad’s cases, nationally. I went back into seclusion, learning how to play guitar, piano and bass and writing heavily, knowing that my next band was about to break out. It did not.

In 1998, after 10 years of developing a career, I was suddenly reintroduced to all of my old friends. I cried for having forsaken them, I cried for all of their good fortune, I smiled as I watched them do whatever they did. They all turned out alright. During the next 7 years I took the moniker of Neurotic Prophet and recorded about 40 songs, which I consider to be my biography. I wrote, played, recorded and mixed everything. Occasionally to my own detriment it seems. But they are my story and, thanks to my lifelong brother Matt Sommers, they are now available for you to listen to, consume and/or vomit as you see fit.

To all the members of A - you are my brothers, I am proud of you, and I love you and yours until I breathe my last.

<notes>Dark Matter Halos was cooked-up in 2005 as a one-off live experiment with the assistance of a multiplicity of friends. The hub of this endeavor - Sarah Cravens on bass, Susan Morris on keyboards, violin, and vocals, and Todd Cravens on guitar and vocals - had such a blast playing together that they decided to turn it into a ceremonial creative collaboration; concentrating more on the creative facet and less on live presentation.

Enter former Young Lords drummer, Jeff Lee - who moved to Indy from Chicago in 2007 and joined up. With that, the chemistry is complete, and they are taking the music to the streets.

Stationed on the shoulders of giants such as Nick Cave, Royal Trux, Morphine, Black Sabbath, Suicide, The Cure, Syd Barrett, PJ Harvey, and too many others to extrapolate, Dark Matter Halos’ approach is based on filtering the infinite creative meandering that rock ‘n’ roll provides through the unique chemistry that the band has developed over the years.

From the psyched-out melodicism of “Spend it All” to the quirky and succinct “EBE” and the balls-out Stooges-esque rocker “Dead to Rights,” the band is not exactly keeping within any predefined margins. Let’s just say they’re less interested in blazing their own trail, and more interested in taking the back roads to god knows where.</notes>

<notes>In the winter of 1985, four bored high school recluses from Kokomo, Indiana, got together and did the most unlikely thing - they started a punk rock band. The band was called Dürt, but the music was dirtier. With Todd Cravens on guitar, Mike Tarr on bass, Norm Auzins on drums, and former Parasyte, Matt Walden (christened “Jello” for medicinal reasons) on vocals and occasional guitar, Dürt wrote a bunch of tunes and recorded Dining Room Demos, which became a neighborhood smash and garnered undulating reviews throughout the thriving Kokomo punk scene. Tunes like "Eat The Dead" and "School's a Drag" showcase the bands wit, humor, and physicality, while virtually reinventing “tardcore,” the sub-punk style we've all come to know and love. On the other hand, the album included delicate numbers such as "Will I Ever Find Out?" and "Cadence Of Souls/Heroes," which, if you weren't paying close attention, were almost profound, depending on what the listener had for breakfast.

Fast-forward six months later with Mike Tarr at boot camp and Kevin Rhodenbaugh in his place (and playing Tarr's ever-ready Hondo bass - the key to the band's microtonic musings), Dürt further refined their chemistry to what they coined “the shit sound” and recorded The Buetow Sessions. New songs such as "Skate Skank" and Rhodenbaugh's "Hypocrite" displayed a band with a renewed purpose - to eat or be eaten.

Fast-forward another month with Norm Auzins at Culver Military Academy (temporarily replaced by local metal guru A.J. McKinney on the traps), the classic Live At Rich Fruth's captures the band full-on and at their zenith. Unwittingly performing their last show under the moniker Dürt (they changed their name to The Mansons), they let it all hang out; ferociously antagonizing the audience with a barrage of verbal and physical contempt that left spectators scratching their collective head. New songs such as "(No More) Mr. Nice Guy," "Modern Life 2," and "Death Sentence" are indicative of where the band was headed - absolutely nowhere. </notes>

<notes>Din was formed around Herron School of Art in Indianapolis during late 1987. They practiced in LonPaul & Gym's house on Talbot St. in a room filled with noisemaking objects. Marimbas, metal pieces, chimes and flutes augmented guitars, drums & bass. They used cymbals to play guitar solos and beat on gourds and plastic. Songs about animals and trains. They played parties and shows around the Herron area, often leaving the audience speechless and hungry for more. Din's strange, powerful, ugly/beautiful music displayed the creative trailblazing of its talented members.

<notes>GBR began in 2001 from the surviving members of the Repeat Offenders: Tony, Pooh and Lenen and the addition of Rich on bass while his other band was on break. The guys worked on putting together a live set and immediately played some shows including a startling appearance at the Melody Inn's Punk Rock Night. Before long they recorded a 4 song demo, then expanded it into their first full length album titled "Drive By Plane-ing".

The band toured regionally during the next year and soon returned to the studio to record the highly acclaimed "Ballet on Barbed Wire" which was named one of the top ten local albums of the year by NUVO Newsweekly. Not wanting to rest and relish in the CD's success, GBR struggled to move forward with writing new material due to various delays related to finding a new drummer.

After several auditions and much false hope, they found current drummer Sean. The newly revitalized group recorded 9 new songs for the 2006 release "enola" which they presented to the world at a CD release party at Birdy's on March 15, 2006.

August 2006, GBR parted ways with their original singer Tony. The band did not want to cancel any shows so they asked band friend Doc Gremore to fill in as a special guest vocalist on 9-2-06 at the Underground. He became a permanent fixture to the band after that show.</notes>

<notes>Many rivers have an abrupt transition from gravelbed to sandbed morphology. In many cases the point of transition is neither prograding nor retrograding, but is rather arrested in place. Two mechanisms are hypothesized as responsible for stabilizing the gravelsand transition, basin subsidence (or alternatively base level rise) and abrasion of gravel. The companion music offers a simplified analytical solution for the long profile of a river with such a transition. This treatment allows for direct insight into the relation between the morphology and the controlling mechanisms at the expense of several gross approximations. The present music offers a rigorous complete numerical solution which takes such facts as the streamwise sorting of heterogeneous gravel into consideration.</notes>

<notes>The band was originally started by Keith, Rob, TJ, and Mark in 1988. After a mere 9 months in the band Keith wanted out. Lanny, who worked with Keith for a short time at the now defunct Mugwump's Cafe, asked Keith for phone numbers to some of the other band members to see if he could take over the soon to be open singing position. After a short transition period the group was writing and gigging again. Heretic Lunch played every available party, all ages show and the occasional national act opener.

The demise of the band started with Rob and Mark heading off to Universities outside of the Indianapolis area. Lanny and TJ went on to form The Birdmen of Alcatraz.</notes>

<notes>The Killing floor was a short-lived band that formed for a few weeks in '87 at Herron School of Art (Indianapolis). Matt put up fliers at the school, looking for people to jam with, Chris & Jeff answered the call. KF was the foundation of what later became Tin Lounge. Matt played guitar & sang, Jeff played Fender Rhodes and Chris kept time on the Drums. Shortly after beginning the band, it was decided that an instrument switch was in order (Jeff went to guitar and lead vocals. Matt picked up the bass) and Tin Lounge was formed.</notes>

<notes>As far as our collective journey as a band, it's a fairly short story. In our past lives we were hunter-gatherers in the steppes of the Russian highlands, ekeing out our existence in the ferret and ground-squirrel trade. Then, inevitably, we died. As it were, Gregg was the first reborn, due to a previous contract with the dark forces that pre-ordain his return to Earth. Needless to say, we weren't happy being resurrected as common musicians and storytellers. But, because you and the rest of the lowly people are so easily entertained, it became an obvious choice to rule above you all. </notes>

<notes>Just a gal on the go; an art teacher and freelance artist. Have worked on several independent film shorts in Chicago, a few music videos, produced independent pieces for gallery exhibits at Walsh Gallery & Flatfile in Chicago and The Apollo Theatre. I was involved on Cartoon Network's 'Long Hair and Double Dome' project as a film assistant, and an art assistant on the indie film 'Jeff Farnsworth' which aired on HBO. I've put together some documentary work through DRiP Films w/ Prof. James Duignan for DePaul University, blues legend Buddy Guy (Live At Legends), The Albany Park Artwalk and various pieces supporting arts in education. Worked as a storyboard artist/creative director/graphics artist/editor/cinematographer with Dreaming Tree Films and collaborated w/ Jillian Pendell on 'Find Your Future', an education orientation video through DTF & After School Matters, which won the Silver Plaque from the Chicago Int'l Film Festival in 2003. Have also worked on several web-based ads and info pieces for travel and visitors bureaus in the Chicagoland area, Mayor Daley's office and Kellogg School of Management. Produced 'One Body' for ICC, a video documenting the persecution of Christians in Cuba, Vietnam, Indonesia & Saudi Arabia - of all the work I have done, this piece is truly the nearest to my heart. Since moving to Tucson, I've produced and edited a segment of 'Bad Mattress Matinee' and a school orientation video for a local charter school. Bad Mattress Matinee will be returning to production - everything has been on hold over the last year thanks to a little spill which had me down for a long time. But all is well now, and I'm getting my groove back. A big thank you and lots of hugs to everyone who has inquired about BMM and sent such encouraging and very thoughtful messages. I truly appreciate it. I also use to perform with bands in Indianapolis and Chicago. My buddy Matt and I formed Grapefrute in 1992 which is one of my fondest moments and memories. You can access the music archive at www.mattsommers.com. Matt and I have also collaborated on several independent projects including my 1998 cd 'Nitecrawlers' and 1999's 'Coffee, Cigarettes and A Few Other Vices'. We've worked in recent years on film and gallery exhibit soundtracks. Aside from all that, I love to write and have written for UR Chicago and contributed to The Chicago Times. Co-authored the Howard Area ARTSLAB curriculum and manual with DePaul University Visual Arts Education colleagues and am working on a graphic novel as well as a collaborative book on education. They will get done someday. In my spare time, I'd like to get my PhD and focus on writing more. Hopefully, I'll have more opportunities to be involved w/ documentaries and writings regarding world events and promoting a complete overhaul in the current education system - trust me, it's beyond a mess! Travelling is on my agenda, too, when I get that extra 5 minutes added to my spare time. I'd also like another drink, please.</notes>

<notes>Lowercase m performed and recorded around Indianapolis throughout the mid 1990s. Their harmonious vocal sound and acoustic instrumentation delighted singer/songwriter fans throughout the area. Their folksy style augmented the alternative cover songs they interpreted, as well as their own catchy originals. They often performed at The Outback, The Patio, and Cafe Angst, and were monthly regulars at the Village Idiot, as well as performing live on local radio several times. <notes>I make compositions using any instrument I can get my hands on, samples and found sounds. Once I have a group of songs on my hard drive, I give them a collective title, burn them to disc and move on. These albums contain everything I was working on at that particular time. Film scores, bits of interesting noises, sound collages, complete techno songs, pop, punk and folk music, etc.

Fact is, I just love sounds. Even if they’re not organized, or actual songs, or even pleasant. I like the contrast of textures, the impact of dynamics, the sweetness of melody and the vibrational math of harmonies. I like to break sounds down and reconstruct them into something new. </notes>

<notes>Part punk, part muppet and part hippie, Madman in the Woods was the result of 3 friends being obnoxious with a guitar, some drums and a casio keyboard. Only practicing and never playing live, MMITW created strange stories about the death of a donut and love with microwaves. They recorded one demo tape (often creating several vastly different takes of the same song) and, to make sure it was never heard, burried it on the back of an Air Supply cassette. We have dug up this strange gem to present to you now.</notes>

Booty's strange chronology is documented in "Booty: A Video Diary" (below).

    <notes>The Mansons aka Jesus Christ

They have been dubbed "The most dangerous band alive." The Mansons have been persecuted relentlessly. We call them the devil. They are the reason society is so bad. Does this sound familiar? This sounds like the same accounts towards Jesus Christ by the Roman Empire 2000 years ago. As they have nailed Christ to the cross, we have nailed the Mansons to the cross. Could it be that the Mansons and Jesus Christ are the same person?

If you know anything about these two, the answer is: Most likely.

Let us take a look at these two. Both Jesus Christ and the Mansons led a cult that still thrives to this very day. Christ's followers are still preaching his words, as do the Manson followers. And each cult is growing as time goes by. Both "Christianity" and "The Manson Family" will be here forever. As old followers die out, new followers will take their place to carry on the words of both Jesus Christ and the Mansons. If we looked past the usual stereotype against the Mansons, we can see that the preaching of the Mansons is identical to that of Jesus Christ. Hasn't Jesus spoken about the power of love? And also, isn't that what Jello Manson used for his motto?? Kevin Manson has said "In love, you do no wrong." Wouldn't Jesus agree?
In fact, would Jesus apply to that? In truth, yes!

Now, it's time to unveil the infamy of the Mansons and Jesus Christ. Yes, both of them are wanted for influencing murder. The Mansons have led the Bryant-Fruth-Hart murders as Jesus Christ led the city of Jericho. In both incidents, people were to die for their "sins".
Because of this, both the Mansons and Christ have been the victims of injustice due to the courts and trials. During the trial, Todd Manson was denied the right to defend himself. Instead, we have hung him up onto the cross. People, for years, have called Mike Manson "A silly old fool who knows absolutely nothing." Is that true? No, absolutely not!! The Mansons are also human beings like us, might we remind you. They have brains.
They know what's going on. We'd rather listen to Jello's words than some fanatic priest.

The Mansons know and have experienced hardships in life too.
Your society has caused the Mansons to become what they have today. If you'd listened to them
in the beginning, the world wouldn't have the Mansons. To put a long topic short, man is known to create gods. Man has then created Jesus Christ, man has also created the Mansons.

Therefore, the Mansons ARE Jesus Christ!

<notes>AKA: JELLO. I learned to play guitar and bass by borrowing from friends and Taylor High School music department, of which I owe a great debt of gratitude. I am left handed, and taught myself to play right-handed-upside-down. I still play this way today. In 2006 I built my own guitar to facilitate my playing style.
I began playing punk with local Kokomo bands, and wouldn't have chosen to grow up any other way. I have always been interested in psychadelic music and hold Pink Floyd as one of my biggest influences. I also like modern international music, especially Tanzwut and Corvus Corax from Germany.</notes>

<notes>Matt and Jeff have known each other since they were 2 and have been making odd music for just about as long. When they were in junior high school, they spent their time making "comedy tapes" that no one heard. Full of post-modern skits about talk shows, theme music and common household item advertisements, this duo evolved from simple songwriters into commanding orators of pop culture dichotomies. Continuing this trend through high school, where they were promptly kicked off the radio for profanity, they often gathered around any available microphone to extemporaneously create madness. With the help of alcohol and a sick sense of humor, they continue to offend in the band Lines of Nazca.</notes>

<notes>After the breakup of African Sleeping Sickness, John Buetow and Matt Sommers wanted to do a separate project that was more folk than punk. So, starting in the summer of 1986, Mind Altering Substances was born. It morphed into several different iterations, drawing in Todd Cravens, Kevin Rhodenbaugh and Ron McKibben. Most of the songs were written by John and Matt, and the album was finished in the fall of 1986 at TBS on weekends when John was home from college. Inspired by the idea that anything can be a Mind Altering Substance, including other people's ideas.</notes>

<notes>This library of oddities and strangeness had no other place to live in the archive. Weird little tunes and noises, bands that only existed for one song, etc. Most are very short and odd in their own way. Hilarious!

Recorded & produced by M. Sommers, except where noted. Performed by various people at various locations. Digitized and re-mastered from original 2-track cassette tapes or CDs by M. Sommers. See track notes for details.</notes>

<notes>Bag of Elbows reunited in Chicago. Dave Boyd moved to Chicago in 1991 and a few years later Rick and Andrew were in town, so what choice did they have but to answer the call of the gods. Bass was initially covered by Carl Saff, later of Emperor Penguin, but then turned over to fellow scenester Eli Miller. Murray played many bars in Chicago from 1996 to 1997 including Beat Kitchen, Elbow Room, Empty Bottle, Double Door, Lounge Ax, Fireside Bowl, and of course Phyllis' Musical Inn.

<notes>Formed in Muncie, Indiana in 1991, Neurotic Box enjoyed some tumultuous ups and downs during their brief tenure. Singer Kevin Rhodenbaugh (ex-Soulpaint) had intended on starting a band with bassist Jeremy Hammond, and through a mutual friend, met guitarist Steve Janiak (Devil to Pay, Pub Sigs). Janiak recommended guitarist Shane McCorkle (Hellwinkle). Without a suitable drummer, Kevin reluctantly returned to his original instruments, drums.

After playing a few shows, the group disbanded, then reformed a few months later with guitarist Chris Kent. This lineup went on to record 1991's "10 Song Demo" and 1992's "Wedge." Chris Kent was eventually replaced by Dan Fulkerson, but after a brief period of shows, the band became a three piece.

In 1993 Neurotic Box began recording their first full length record at Kelsey's Playground with guitar maestro Mike Kelsey, but before the record was released, they signed a publishing deal with now defunct Interscope Music (Possum Dixon, Tupac Shakur, SWV). After the release of 1994's "Parables for the Esoteric" the band showcased for a handful of major labels, recorded another 4 song demo at Kelsey's Playground (with producer John Bogosian), then added singer/guitarist Jeff Marker for only a few months before disbanding entirely, with Janiak off to devote his full attention to the Pub Sigs, Rhodenbaugh & Hammond starting a new group, Room 237.

In 1995, Neurotic Box reformed, this time with Pub Sigs guitarist Larry King. The band recorded 3 new songs and played locally until 1997, when they finally called it quits.</notes>

<notes>Niswander (pronounced nice-wander) is a multi-media artist and true innovator. He is a singer, songwriter, keyboardist, actor, entertainer, comedian, music, video and podcast producer, entrepreneur, a storyteller, educator, historian, and even a reporter. He has Swiss ancestry, but doesn't play the accordion…yet. He lived in Midwestern, Southwestern, and Western states as well as Japan. While living in southern California he first worked as a music composer and prop master while playing music in the underground scene. He worked on film and television productions where he interacted with stars like Steve Martin and Linda Hamilton and can say that for one brief moment he was directed by infamous Hollywood director Blake Edwards. He also took time out to learn how to boogie board in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean. Now based out of Indianapolis, he continues to play live shows which are audio-visual entertainment extravaganzas incorporating characters, wild costumes, original video and spontaneity. He calls the act NISWANDER ROCK THEATER and performs either as a one man show or with a band.

In the late 90's, he recorded with studio musicians Dane Clark of the John Mellencamp band and Eric Klee Johnson of Wonderdrug in Indiana. The website niswander.net was launched in 1999. Between 1999 and 2003, he released two albums on Lyon's Den Music which include the unique "Surfin' With Jesus," "Funky Space," "Read A Book," "Summer In My Mind," and "Fun (To the Nth Degree)" which have received radio airplay. Niswander solo or with the band has appeared on Fox and CBS television affiliates and Fox 59 Morning Show called them one of their favorite bands. He produced and performed numerous live shows including a multi-media variety show at Birdy's Live nightclub that ran monthly from 2001 to 2004 which featured all styles of music and included other acts such as stand up comics, a magician, a ballet dancer, and even a real vaudevillean entertainer. Some of the themed shows included British Night, Halloween, Girls Night Out, Beach Party, and even a 2002 tribute to the Beatles George Harrison which received recognition from the Office of George Harrison. The show was featured in Indianapolis Monthly magazine and can even claim a 'Mystery' guest appearance by Prince and New Power Generation.

Over the 4th of July week-end in 2002, the Niswander Band opened the huge outdoor festival called the Indy Summer Stages in downtown Indianapolis which featured over fifty bands in a three day period including Blondie, The Roots, Los Lobos, Sugar Ray, and Widespread Panic. He has been on the front page of the Indianapolis Star and in one of the articles written by pop critic David Lindquist he wrote: "With 'Surfin' With Jesus' he can rely on a single tune to consistently bring down the house." With diverse characters which include a British secret agent, stand-up comedian, rock singer, Swiss inventor, and eccentric storyteller, he lives up to the reputation as an artistic 'Chameleon' which is the name of one of his songs and a promotional film. In addition to "Chameleon" which was produced with director Matt Sommers, Niswander appears as Taylor Garrison in the Woodworks Films production of "Saving Star Wars," a full-length comedy feature which won an award at the 2004 London Sci-Fi Film Festival and features the original Darth Vader David Prowse. He can also include interviews with Hollywood entertainer Buddy Ebsen, original Saturday Night Live writer Vincent Di Piero, producer and musician Moe Z (keyboardist with the Wallflowers and John Mellencamp, and producer of Tupac Shakur and others) as well as producing an internet radio show interview with actress Cindy Williams in his resume. He first got involved in charity work when he played music at a benefit for the L.A. Mission in Pasadena, California that was sponsored by veteran actor Mickey Rooney.

In 2003, he co-founded The Olive Branch Society while living in Indianapolis initially producing and performing in benefit concerts for Adopt-A-Minefield. He has conducted presentations on landmine education at high schools. As a media ambassador for Adopt-A-Minefield, he picked up interviews with Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Michael Douglas, Mickey Rooney, and others at their L.A. event and is the guest contributor in the fall 2004 edition of their publication which is called "The Deminer."

He launched NISWANDER ROCK THEATER in 2005 initially as an audio podcast variety show and introduced the website NiswanderRockTheater.com while making comedy club appearances as his character Buddy Shine. In 2006, he finished a Bachelor of Administration- Marketing degree in December and has already begun developing his new marketing campaign by networking on Internet sites such as MySpace. He produced numerous videos such as music videos, Rock Theater character comedy routines, and his first Internet show "Niswander's Fun To the Nth Degree" which debuted with guest actor/comedian/writer Harry Shearer (Spinal Tap, Simpsons) on YouTube. The Niswander Band played to over 30,000 Mini-Marathon runners and others near the entrance of the Indianapolis 500 Speedway in May and in September he performed solo on the stage at Verizon Wireless Music Center which has been graced by such legendary performers as David Bowie, Ringo Starr, The Who, Bob Dylan, Cher, Peter Gabriel, Sting, and B.B. King.

In 2007, he began writing new material for his next album with a working title of “Read A Book and Other Stories.” He began producing the online show “Weekend Videos” on the Monticello blog and produced over 100 other videos including a series on the Indianapolis Colts, British rocker John Waite, the Indianapolis 500, and the YouTube phenomenon in his “Niswander’s Fun To the Nth Degree” show. His cover story “YouTube and the Art of Social Networking” which focuses on Internet socializing and attending the YouTube Meetup in New York City on 7-7-07 was published in Nuvo Newsweekly.</notes>

<notes>Sit down all you young (and old) Punkers and listen to Grampa Jello tell you the tale of the Parasytz. Now remember, Grampa Jello has had a few short-term memory lapses since the 1980s so bear with him here.

Now where do I begin? 1984-ish. Those were simpler times. Now remember all you young-uns, we didn't have all the luxuries like you do now. We didn't have the internet or Starbucks coffee, CDs were still a few years away. We actually had to copy music off each others' cassette tapes!! I'm pretty sure I still have Randy Graff's Bad Brains on cassette somewhere around here...

So what were young Punkers to do for fun? Make music of course. Music to drink Little Kings to. Music to copy. Bad bad music to play at the ISIS theatre. What? Yeah, used to be a porn palace, that's right. -heh heh

Now if I recall, the Parasytz (formerly AWOL) had just changed drummers and Matt Sommers had just left the band. One fine day during practice it struck us (thunk) that we needed a new name. A bad name An icky name. So we became the Parasytz.

Kevin Rhodenbaugh became the new drummer. Kevin and I always were close, and he is a musical genius. Dave Arnold was our bass player. Dave was just learning to play bass at the time. Dave was the one that always got the girls, with his "Peter Throb" alter-ego. And I was just learning my power chords on the guitar. A lot of what you hear on the recordings were the standard "open" chords you learn first. Troy Stodgell, who had been involved in AWOL and other earlier projects, was our front man and was used to writing lyrics and singing. We all tried our first hands at writing music and lyrics in this band, if I remember.

We played some of Troy's material (and probably Matt Sommer's) left over from AWOL. We played a couple of the first songs I had ever written. I honestly don't remember what else. I'm sure we covered the obligatory Ramones and Pistols... We played for only a short time before disbanding, but one of these shows was the first "Punk Night" at the ISIS theater. Some of us got to know the manager of the ISIS and he agreed that if we met a certain number of people attending, we could have Punk Night every week. I met with the manager before we went on and was able to announce during our set that we had met the goal. Punk Night it was, every week. That was a really cool night.

I'm not sure I remember what happened when we broke up. We were playing a show at the ISIS with A.S.S. and we just generally sucked that night. A.S.S. was in excellent form, making it feel worse than it probably was. I think we all just decided to throw in the towel that night. I remember it being a pretty mutual decision.

Well that's it, that's story time for tonight. Come round here tomorrow and I'll tell you all 'bout Ronald Reagan and that chimp Bonzo. Now Reagan had a relationship with Bonzo. A close relationship, a wet relationship, an explicit relationship....</notes>

<notes>Kokomo, Indiana in the early 80's was a sad and lonely place to grow up. To combat their frustrations, these four friends began learning how to play their instruments and started composing punk songs in Brad and Troy's garages. Often humorous and angry at the same time, their racket became the bane of all who lived close by. Similar Differences played a few parties and were written about in the Kokomo High yearbook. Later, with the addition of Matt Walden, this band became A.W.O.L. (see other entry).</notes>

locally-operated Augmented Mammary Records, featuring such like-minded local acts as Gravelbed, Acid Green, and The Young Lords. Soulpaint played a gazillion shows throughout the area, garnered a lot of press and even managed to get songs played on local radio stations for a spell. They also produced two self-released cassettes and a CD, as well as being featured on local compilation CDs from Indianapolis and Chicago. Soulpaint disbanded in 1995 to pursue other musical interests.

<notes>85's started out as a project among friends Lanny, Nick, Gregg & Dusty. The main premise was to create music that we all enjoyed. Original music with emphasis on bands that we loved (new york dolls, iggy, black sabbath). Started playing out live (melody inn, radio radio, patio), as loud as possible. Went through several drummers. Recorded several times in several places. Some songs don't have vocals because we didn't finish. So fuck off.</notes>

<notes>Primarily a vehicle for songwriter/singer Jeff McClellen, Tin Lounge was born in the late 80’s at Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and went on to perform and record for 5 years. The band, through many member changes, left an impressive collection of songs in it’s wake. </notes>

<notes>Tyler Bowman writes and performs original acoustic music with a pop sensibility and an ear for a great hook. Matt Sommers and Lanny Boles recorded, produced and played the backing instruments for these three compelling and tasty songs.</notes>

<notes>Wankin' Basstereo was an experimental punk-industrial band from Indianapolis that consisted of three bassists and a drummer (bass+stereo=basstereo) The evolution of the band and its abnormal instrumentation was the result of accident and experimentation. They received little notoriety and much question their first year before acquiring a small but dedicated following. The music was noisy and fast with keyboards and samples holding together the layered sounds of two and sometimes three basses. Catchy riffs, awkward humor, and pure attitude marked some characteristics of the band accompanied by a live show featuring audience-participation, a fabulous light show, and the unexpected.

During their three years of existence they cut two albums. The first of these was a demo merely titled "DEMO-lition" which was a monument to chaos and recording flubs. Emerging from the recorded muck was the song "Black Lung" which was played on Rock92's alternative show, Brave New World.

A year later, after some member changes, and much practice - the recording of their second album, "Sit on my Bass" began. This album revealed the band's diversity, containing songs from pure punk to a frenzy of hard-core industrial. Songs like "The Forest" and "Death Remedy" were spooky and foreboding while "3-1-2" and "Grim Sleeper" were grungy and driving.
The success of "Sit on my Bass" led to some local and regional touring as well as live radio and television performances.

Before serious work could be done on new material, the band sustained several member changes. While searching for a replacement drummer for 3 months the band drifted apart.</notes>

<notes>WWS is Matt Sommers. These songs cover his solo recording efforts from 1985 until he started recording digitally as M. Sommers in '95 (see other artist entry). Cranking out a new song roughly every 4 days during this 10 year period, Wiggly Wiggly Snake went wherever it wanted to. Most tracks were recorded on crude equipment (cassette decks, 4 track, hand held) using any instrument or sound available. Songs range from pop, to experimental, to comical, to rude. Nothing was off limits on this audio journey.

Consider yourself warned.</notes>

<notes>Matt Sommers began recording friends, bands & acquaintances playing their versions of Xmas and holiday songs back in 1990. Since then, the archive of festive tunes has grown to encompass hard rock, rap, classical and jazz compositions. Even kids from the Indianapolis children's choir appear on a few songs. These tracks range from somber to strange. See track notes for full details. A worthy addition to any holiday collection. Enjoy.</notes>
